LTRU 001C - FIRST-YEAR RUSSIAN

Final course in the Beginning sequence. Heritage and Non-Heritage speakers of Russian will work together to complete their year-long study of the fundamental vocabulary and grammar of Russian. Course meets 3 hrs. per week for lecture and 2 hrs. per week for discussion section. Materials from written texts and visual media will be included, as well as a final project.

LTRU 002C - SECOND-YEAR RUSSIAN

Final course in the intermediate sequence. Heritage and Non-Heritage students work together to complete their study of advanced Russian grammar and a solid foundation of vocabulary. Includes work with film and original Russian literary texts. Course meets 3 hrs. per week for lecture, 1 hr. per week for discussion, and requires participation in online film viewing and discussion threads. Final creative group project.

LTRU 150 (B) - RUSSIAN CULTURE
Humor in Russian Literature
Instructor: Zlatina Sandalska

In his course, we will trace the ways in which Russians have used humor to grapple with the "big ideas" and to challenge important notions of authority and literary institutions. We will touch upon puppet theater, carnival celebrations and will focus on famous humorists such as Chekhov,  Zoshchenko, Il'f and Petrov and  will study in depth authors of the late Soviet (e.g., Erofeev, Dovlatov) and post-Soviet era (e.g., Pelevin), Soviet jokes (anekdoty), internet memes, and more.
